In August 2017, Forbes declared that Oracle now has a “once-in-a-generation chance to displace arch-enemy SAP as the world leader in enterprise applications … As the bell sounds in Round One in the Cloud ERP Wars, the judges give a unanimous decision to Oracle.”

Oracle followed up with a blog post that summarizes the situation in this way: “The consensus is building: SAP is yesterday’s ERP.”

At CSS, we wholeheartedly believe in what Oracle has done, is doing, and will do in the future. The founder of Oracle, Larry Ellison, has been credited for inventing the very notion that software could be a service, rather than a purchased product. At a 2000 press conference, he noted that the software industry, as it currently existed, would be replaced by a service industry where companies would buy automation systems that would be available online.

With this vision in mind, Oracle began to diversify its investments, continuing to create innovative products while also focusing heavily on service. And Oracle is gratified, its post reads, about how the press, the industry, and its customers are enthusiastic about its approach, one that is causing SAP to become yesterday’s ERP.

ERP Solutions of the Future

In the near future, whether that means next year or five years from now, when we look back at the ERP, including SCP Cloud solutions available in 2017, even more powerful advancements will be in evidence. They will likely include:

  • Even more mobile capabilities that will allow global enterprise teams to make real-time decisions in a way not yet possible, including Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Embedded analytics seamlessly built into the ERP solutions
  • A growing hybrid architecture that can merge crucial legacy components with the most cutting-edge technology for laser-targeted, customized applications
  • ERP solutions with applications that are even more user-centric

ERP Challenges: Today and Tomorrow

We anticipate the continuing of a mixture of private and public cloud usages as companies collect, analyze, and share data for their supply chain management, customer relationship management, human resources applications, financial and accounting needs, and more.

Enterprise systems will expand in configurable ways, and that will create unique hybrid combinations. Smoothly integrating these applications will present complicated challenges that, if not seamlessly resolved, will cost enterprises time and money.

Why Oracle ERP is the Smart Choice

Oracle has been developing new cloud-based applications for eight years already, with nearly 5,000 customers using these ERP cloud applications. These applications continue to become more robust with the addition of emerging technologies, ranging from machine learning to adaptive intelligence, blockchain, and more.

With machine learning, enterprises can combine data mining with predictive analytics, which allows companies to automatically discover data patterns and make strategic and operational decisions based on these patterns.

The addition of artificial intelligence and data-driven apps allows companies to amplify value across all applications with minimal effort and cost. Blockchains consist of discrete blocks, each of which records a unique monetary transaction. As each block is added (meaning, each transaction is recorded), it is verified and then added to a shared accounting ledger that can be accessed across multiple networks by all verified users.
