Moving to the Cloud: Solutions for You
Why Companies (of Any Size) Have No Excuse Not to Move to the Cloud
Benefits of moving applications to the Cloud are time-tested and significant, including how companies can:
- become more efficient
- boost productivity
- innovate more quickly
- reduce costs
- become more competitive
- improve communications
- have real-time visibility
- benefit from enhanced security
- enjoy flexibility
Initially, as with virtually any form of new technology, the Cloud was used only by early adopters, which often included bigger enterprises. But, today, the reality is that small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) can also benefit greatly by harnessing the power of the Cloud. To provide an overview, CSS’s own Jim Webb wrote a blog post that appears on Oracle’s site, and its title provides a succinct summary: Why Companies (of Any Size) Have No Excuse Not to Move to the Cloud.
As Jim points out, SMBs are often trying to grow their companies using on-premise finance applications, including legacy desktop tools such as Excel spreadsheets. These companies are likely to be missing out on great opportunities, with today’s financial Cloud solutions more powerful than ever before.
Plus, it’s easier today to transition than it’s been in the past, with Cloud services requiring less configuration. This helps companies adopt these solutions and, because the applications are more intuitive than ever, it’s easier to reap substantial, long-lasting benefits from Cloud usage.
SMB Trends & Cloud Solutions
According to Oracle’s EPM Trends Report, 79 percent of businesses surveyed say they plan to adopt the Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud some time within the next two years. Reasons given include the following:
- on-premises upgrades
- infrastructure investment
- improving total cost of ownership
This raises the question, then, of “Why wait?” Why are some SMBs still saying, “Not now”?
- transitioning to the Cloud is a cultural shift and company executives may not feel prepared to make that shift yet
- company founders may still be significantly involved in business operations, trying to determine how to delegate responsibilities; this may be especially true if a startup is becoming an SMB
- internal processes would need to be adjusted for growth
The last bullet point may be especially significant, because the Cloud facilitates a company’s ability to continually assess and adjust to meet client needs, improve products and services, and more—and this can represent significant change for an SMB.
Plus, with a smaller to mid-sized company, it can be harder to recover from mistakes, which can lead to hesitation, a reluctance to change a system that’s already established. And, an SMB often has fewer resources, whether that’s time, talent, or budget, to dedicate to the transition.
But, you don’t need to wait anymore!
