Oracle Procurement Cloud & E-Business Suite: In-Depth Look at Cummins, Inc. – Webcast Replay
Cummins, Inc. recognized a need: It needed to build capability in its purchasing functions using common tools, controlled processes, and data that enabled all relevant people to collaborate and make confident decisions. Cummins defined success as when it could all rely upon one source to get the right information to the right people at the right time. The company realized that by using multiple systems to manage huge amounts of data, it was in fact difficult for its team to confidently make crucial decisions. That needed to change.
Cummins is a global company that designs, manufactures, sells, and services diesel and alternative fuel engines, along with diesel and alternative-fueled electrical generator sets, and related technology and components. This enterprise has 73,000 active parts; 1,400+ suppliers; and 300+ sourcing units, located in more than 190 countries. Therefore, the company clearly needed a common global solution that would address all their challenges.

Oracle Procurement Cloud Implementation and Integration to E-Business Suite
Overall, Cummins was dealing with a lack of supplier integration, which made it difficult, even risky, for suppliers to do business with the company. With the goal of making it much easier to do business with Cummins, its Procurement Cloud solution included the following modules: Cloud Sourcing, Supplier Management, and Supplier Risk and Contract Management.
The result? This solution allowed Cummins to benefit from a reduced product cost, and a reduced supplier and supply chain risk. Best of all, these Cloud solutions allowed it to achieve the goal of making it easier for suppliers to do business with the company.
Additionally, the PaaS applications of Java Cloud Service and Database Cloud Service allowed Cummins to benefit from a custom-created supplier negotiation PaaS application that supported its unique requirements for price break upload via uploaded spreadsheets. These PaaS applications served as an extension of the Cloud, giving Cummins the functionality needed for high volume uploading and price breaks, along with line level attributes.
Additional functionality included the ability to:
- create and edit a negotiation
- create and edit negotiation lines with multiple line level attributes and price breaks
- upload mass negotiation lines from Excel
- clone negotiation lines
From a technical perspective, its Java Cloud Service SaaS Extension remained in the same identity domain as the Procurement Cloud, featuring Oracle ADF for web application screens. This created a seamless experience for people using these applications, again making it easier to do business with Cummins.
